Vesuvianite

Vesuvianite aka Idocrase and aka Vesonite.  Vesuvianite gemstone is termed Idocrase when it is cut and polished for use as a gemstone in jewelry.  This is not a common stone.  Named for Mount Vesuvius where it is mined.  The name idocrase is rooted in Greek and means form and mixture.  First identified by Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1795.
