Mucha Zodiac - Queen of Swords Tarot 16 inch Cotton Pillow Cover by Baba Studio

Baba Studio $51.50

A gorgeous reproduction of Alphonse Mucha's interpretation of the tarot's Queen of Wands.  It's very lavish and wonderfully decorative.  A romantic, pretty pillow cover.

This pillow cover is beautifully made by hand in Baba Studios' own printed cotton fabric and gilded pure cotton.

  • Carefully printed in Prague by Baba Studio.
  • Fully piped around the edges for a truly special look and feel (piped cushions are becoming hard to find because they are time-consuming and require skill to make).
  • Piped and backed in gold gilded linen — a gorgeous fabric made in the Czech Republic.
  • 16 inches by 16 inches, so it fits a standard pillow form.
  • Generously-sized zipper so that the cover is easily removed for cleaning (spot clean or dry clean please).
  • Printed using high quality ink.  These prints have excellent color-fastness.
  • Great quality cotton satin, this pillow cover is made to give you many happy years of use.

Alfons Mucha, a painter and decorator in art nouveau, was born on July 24th, 1860 in the Czech Republic.  He died July 14th, 1939.  He was known as Alphonse Mucha and Alfonse Mucha.  He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs.  Many of his paintings and illustrations were used as ads and postcards.

When fascism reached its peak in the late 1930's, his reputation and work suffered because the press understood him to be reactionary.  His art was deemed dated and no longer desirable to collectors.  He was of Jewish ancestry.  When the Nazi's moved into Czechoslovakia in 1939, he was soon arrested and interrogated.  He was 79 and contracted pneumonia in prison.  Later, he was released that summer, but he died from the pneumonia.

His son was an author and wrote a lot about his father to restore the integrity of the art and his father's reputation.  Mucha's work rose again in popularity during the '60's and now due to the overall great appreciation of Art Nouveau.
