Kambaba Jasper aka Stromatolites

Kambaba Jasper aka Stromatolites

Kambaba Jasper is a jasper that is actually fossilized algae.  Blue-Green Algae Fossils are called Stromatolites.  They are found in the rocks Madagascar and are some of the oldest fossils in existence - over 3 billions years old.

The algae grows in round shapes.  As it pushes through the sediment, it collects and binds the sediment particules, which is why there are layers of growth.

Although practically extinct today, there was a time when Blue-Green Algare was the primary life form on Earth that most likely created our atmosphere of oxygen.

Also known as Crocodile Jasper.
